NCA at a Glance

Welcome to the Illinois North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement.

The North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement is the oldest and largest of the six regional accrediting associations that monitors U.S. schools internationally. As a nationally recognized organization, NCA CASI’s purpose is to accredit schools and to provide support to member schools in their efforts to improve student achievement. NCA CASI is a not-for-profit, voluntary membership organization of approximately 9,100 schools in a 19 state region. NCA CASI also accredits the Department of Defense Schools and schools in the Navajo Nation. NCA CASI is recognized by the United States Department of Education as a regional accrediting association.

In Illinois, NCA CASI represents more than 600 elementary, middle and secondary schools. Special purpose, college prep and adult/vocational schools are also included. NCA CASI is based on the principles of voluntary participation, high quality standards, self-evaluation, peer review and continuous improvement. The NCA CASI process requires planning and implementing a data-driven results oriented model.

The Illinois NCA CASI is fortunate to be sponsored by the University of Illinois. We are proud of our affiliation with the U of I and the support we receive from faculty and staff.
